Automatic Potentiometric Titrators

Q
What should be done if there are bubbles between the cylinder and the piston head, or leakage of the titration solution?
A

The piston cylinder might deteriorate or the piston head might become scratched. The piston head tends to get scratched when using a high alkaline titration solution that damages glass (1 mol/L NaOH or KOH for example), or a titration solution prone to crystallization (silver nitrate or potassium permanganate for example). The above-mentioned symptoms might occur after approximately 3 to 6 months. If this occurs, replace the cylinder and piston head.

【Caution】
If the cylinder is filled with a reagent when stored, be sure to lower the piston head to the lower limit before storage.

If the piston head is left stopped at the upper limit, reagent adhering to the cylinder walls will be deposited, and the piston head will be scratched. The above-mentioned symptoms might occur after 2 to 3 days. Be particularly careful with titration solutions containing alcohol (such as 0.1 mol/L KOH in IPA).
