If a sample contains something other than sucrose, differences in the measurement principle between a refractometer and a density/specific gravity meter will cause differences in the measurement values. If an aqueous solution contains only sucrose, the Brix value measured by the refractometer and the density/specific gravity meter will be the same, so check using such a solution. If a difference in the Brix values occurs with an aqueous sucrose solution, then inspection (calibration) by a KEM representative is recommended. Request an inspection (calibration) from your KEM representative.

Q
When Brix measurements of the same sample are performed with a refractometer and a density/specific gravity meter, a difference between the measurement values occurs. What causes this?
